Tony Martino is an alternative/ambient/pop artist from Chicago, and the two songs I've heard immediately remind me of John Mayer's first album. I listened to both Dance Without The Music and I Can't Promise.
"Dance Without the Music" is upbeat and fun, with lyrics that are thoughtful and dreamy. It's a song that would play on a fun first date, where you really like the person, are enjoying yourself, and can't help but jump to silent conclusions about the future. You listen to this song and look back with fond nostalgia, whether a relationship forms, or not. I listened three or four times, just to see how it grows. The verses require just a little careful listening to appreciate their cleverness, but the chorus is catchy. My only advice would be to turn down the vocal effect that causes "false loud", which eventually makes a listeners ears feel tired. I wouldn't turn it all the way off, or it would lose some of the nostalgia-dream vibe. This sort of jam is even better when the vocals sound slightly more acoustic. It's a great song, that is so VH1's Top 20, and I really dig it.
"I Can't Promise" conveys sad inevitability and slight guilt, while also ringing with honesty and hinted optimism in its lyrics. It's easy listening, and would be an excellent album filler, with potential as a third or fourth single. I see it as the song that becomes your favorite after you've already had 5 favorites at different times on the same CD.
I'm mos def picking up the album this summer!
